The Skore - History

Where did it all start for The Score ?

History of The Score

The band started out as 'Moosey' and became 'The Score' after spending a lot of time with the former director of EMI records. Various magazines and news papers have followed their movements within the last few years and here is what some of them had to say....The Southern Evening Echo.

When the former chief of one of the world's top record labels agrees to personally help a local band, then they must be doing something right.

Southampton foursome Moosey have a big fan in former EMI A&R boss Hugh Stanley Clarke. Hugh worked for the record company during the 80's and as well as being responsible for signing acts such as Marillion and Thomas Dolby, he has worked alongside the likes of Kajagoogoo and Queen.

But now, Hugh, who lives in Bournemouth, is turning his attention to Moosey, hoping to turn them into the next big thing. "I think they have the potential for being another one of these British bands that don't fit any mould. I have been working with them for nine weeks now, and they have huge potential." Moosey (Just Payne, Trev Aubeck, Scottie B and Digby) are playing the Joiners Arms on Thursday in front of a specially invited music industry audience, who are coming to Southampton on Hugh's recommendation.

"Hugh has completely changed the way we look at things," says lead singer Just. "Before we met Hugh, we were basically a pub rock band, who concentrated on cover versions, but now we are committed to our own material, which sounds better than ever. Things are definitely looking up for the band. Whereas before we were pleading with record companies to listen to our demo, on Thursday at least three different labels are making the trip down to Southampton to come and see us."

Moosey have been playing their own songs for the past four years, but have now decided to take a step back and totally re-evaluate their original material. "With Hugh's help we decided to strip our original material right down and look at it again" adds guitarist Digby. Hugh firmly believes that good songs are the key to a band's success, and thinks that Moosey's current material has the full potential to make it big. They have great songs, there are a lot of very confident bands in the UK that don't have the songs I've seen around 10,000 bands live and most of them don't have their own songs, and songs are what sell bands. Life is looking good for Moosey, and lead singer Just is certainly enjoying himself.

"I am loving every second of every minute of every day. We are sounding tighter and there is a good feeling within the band that with Hugh's help we can make it big."

The Southern Evening Echo

The Skore formerly known as 'The Score' - Southern Daily EchoA change for the better? If at first you don't succeed then change your name and hope for the best That's what local band The Score have done, and it looks like it's paid off.

"Basically, The Score are just Moosey but grown-up," says lead singer Just. 'The other two members of Moosey left for their own reasons, so we've brought Scott and Trev in and we sound better than ever. We still thrive on happy, bouncy, light rock, but now we've got an edge to our sounds which we think puts it a cut above. When the others left we stripped everything down and basically started again. I can't wait to get back out playing regularly again."
